Our Community Care Day was fantastic! Working side-by-side to beautify Dexter McCarty's campus was a delight and the event was a good opportunity to display Christ's love for our community.

Here is what's happening in the life of the church

  • "Don't be a Pharisee"
The Pharisees are the bad guys of the gospels, but maybe not for the reason you think. I read a superb article in Christianity Today about the real reason Jesus confronted the Pharisees. Definitely worth a read. You can find it here.

  • Small Groups
Group sign-ups will start Sunday, September 9th. If you are interested in leading a group, co-leading a group, or being a host home; please contact Anthony Perez.

  • Encourage a Teacher
We could use your help writing words of encouragement to Dexter McCarty teachers. Each year we give DMMS faculty a $50 gift card to Office Depot along with a note from GBC. Practically, the gift helps provide for classroom needs. Relationally, we hope that our generosity will have an eternal impact for the kingdom of God. Thank you cards will be available on the back stage this Sunday.

  • Deacon Installation!
This coming Sunday we will be installing 5 new deacons; praise God! We will lay hands on: Bryan and Chris McClelland, Jason and Lynsey Bock, and Brett Hooper.

  • SAFETY UPDATE
The backstage will NO longer be available for seating. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Children's Ministry
GBC is blessed with LOTS of kids! In order to serve them well, we are in need of 3 nursery helpers to properly fill our fall schedule. This is a once per month commitment. Please contact Lisa or Megan this week if you would like to join the team!
Also, this is the final week of kids in service! We have coloring sheets and clip boards available at the back table!

  • GBC 101
September 9th, 12:30-2:30pm in the Study. Lunch is provided. Children are welcome. RSVP to Noel Rodman to attend.

  • Student Ministries
Both Jr. High and High School will kick off on Sunday September 9th at the Riegelmann's. Also, in case you missed it, here is Dave's announcement about candidating for senior pastor with Flagstaff Christian Fellowship. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Our Upcoming Gathering

Lord willing, Thomas will lead us in music, Preston Knifong will lead our service and I will preach Proverbs 1:1-7 "Get Wisdom." Please pray for our gathering, read over the text

Personal Update from Dave Berry

Dear GBC,

I wanted to take a moment to share a personal update. Through a unique turn of providences, and with the elders’ blessing, I have been in conversation with a church in Flagstaff, Arizona searching for a Senior Pastor.

By all accounts, this is an amazing opportunity for the Gospel. Not only in fostering greater health in a local church, but also uniquely discipling and sending out both seasonal residents and college students.

Flagstaff Christian Fellowship, has selected me as their top candidate and is flying my family out Aug 15. The purpose of the visit is to take the final steps in getting to know one another and see if the Lord is truly leading the Berry’s to this new ministry assignment.

The Lord has filled my heart with great joy and satisfaction while serving our students. My family continues to be abundantly blessed by GBC and we have grown in so many ways. Should the Lord lead us to FCF, we are eager to “transplant” those blessings to others.

To be clear, an official position has not been offered to me. The congregation will vote on Sun, September 9th at which point I will be notified of their decision. But, it seems the Lord is in this and things will move forward.

There are many moving parts and hearts involved in this process. It is bittersweet to be sure. Please pray for all and for wisdom, discernment, courage, and unity. Most importantly, for the Lord to be glorified and His will to be done. – Dave Berry

Our Upcoming Gathering

Lord willing, Marc will lead us in music, Lynsey Bock will lead our service and Dan Stump will preach Matthew 6:25-34. Please pray for our gathering, read over the text

My kids have been looking forward to our church campout since the conclusion of the last campout. Kelsey and I are also eagerly anticipating a rich time of fellowship with new and established GBC’ers. Additionally, we are upping our camping game this year: we got a griddle and descent chairs. No tent yet but we have moved from a cabin to a yome (progress).

Campout Details

  • Click HERE to view our GBC Campout Schedule. It contains pertinent information about check-in/out and details about weekend activities.

  • Bee Allergies! Promontory is experiencing an increase in bees this year. While they are taking measures to combat this problem, please make sure you are prepared if you or a family member has a bee allergy.

  • Keep an eye on the forecast as the day approaches! There is currently an expectation of rain on Saturday morning. Come prepared! – From PGE Parks

  • Promontory Park is situated next to a beautiful reservoir that provides opportunities for swimming and boating and other water activities. Please be advised that there are no lifeguards on duty and GBC does not provide water monitors or lifeguards.

  • There are still a couple of sites left if you are interested in attending. Contact Noel.

On Sunday afternoon Kelsey and I will be showing your appreciation (and ours) for the staff and elders of GBC with a family BBQ in our backyard. They work hard and render their service eagerly and with much joy. We are very fortunate to have so many faithful leaders. One of my growth areas (and I think it's pretty common) is withholding praise. We often feel gratitude and may even express it in thanksgiving to God, but fail to convey that sentiment to the individual. As you have opportunity, please take time to let your leaders know how much you appreciate them and their work in our church.

Here is what's happening in the life of the church

  • Women's Ministry

Gresham Bible Church Update

A few leaders from our church met with the leaders of Powell Valley Church on Friday evening to explore the possibility of GBC acquiring their property. For much of their 127 year history PVC has enjoyed a rich legacy, but in recent years their good reputation has been lost. Knowing this, we have been clear that it is wise and best for their church to dissolve and then donate their assets to GBC. In this scenario Powell Valley would close and GBC would continue as normal but with a great property and a few new people. Over the last few weeks we have (at their urging) engaged in talks about how and if this can actually happen. In the process we have learned more about their church and some of the complexities surrounding enveloping them into GBC. Paramount to the elders is preserving our faithful witness of Jesus Christ. Also we are committed to the health of GBC. In the book, "Better Together" which is about how to unify churches, the author says that when done well 1+1=3 but when done poorly 1+1=0. This only works if it's a win for GBC. We are working to wisely navigate our way through these talks. Also, we are happy to discuss these things further with you. We are holding out hope that this will actually get done, as it would be a wonderful opportunity for GBC. But there is chance that we won't be able to come to terms. Your prayers are appreciated. And we ask that prayer be the primary way that you talk about this possibility, please mostly talk to God about this. We want to refrain from disrespecting Powell Valley or disparaging them in any way.

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Here is what's happening in the life of the church

  • Church Camp Out

150 people are already registered for our August 10-12 Camp out. We still have a number of tent/rv sites remaining but cabin and yome sites are all reserved. The early bird deadline is May 21st. Register online.

  • Women's Bible Study
The next women's bible study is Tuesday, May 22nd 7-9pm in The Study.

  • Summer Camp Scholarships (from Emily Prodan)

We are nearing the end of the camp scholarship qualification period. I have still not gotten any applications…and have only had a handful of kids submit service projects for approval. It is really important to know the headcount so we can appropriately allocate funds and send them to the proper camp. Please let me know asap via email (prodan02@gmail.com) or turn in the application page to the offering box. I have gotten some feedback that an extra week would be helpful so I will extend the deadline to Sunday, June 3rd. Finally, we still need donations to the fund to be able to offer up to 50% of the tuition. This is such a huge blessing to our kids and a great investment in their spiritual growth. Please mark your checks "camp scholarship fund". Thank you for your support of our kids!

  • Student Ministries
    (1) NO HS group this Sunday due to Mother’s Day
    (2) Thank you for praying last week and we ask for your continued prayer this week. The students recently finished reading Jesus’ Upper Room Discourse in John 12-17 a total of 53 times for 318 chapters. Now they have turned their attention to Matthew 1-7 and have been challenged to note parallels between Moses and Jesus.

  • GBC Picnic

Mark your calendars for our GBC picnic coming up June 24th at Red Sunset Park.  We need volunteers for food prep, set up, clean up, kids games, and general photography. If you would like to volunteer please email or talk with Noel Rodman or Michelle Waggoner.

Gresham Bible Church Update

admin

Thank you to all who made our Resurrection Sunday a huge success. The service was a win in so many ways.

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Let's pray for our upcoming Women's Retreat. Pray that God would use the retreat to grow our women in Christ and to deepen the bond of unity among women in our church.

Here is what's happening in the life of the church

  • New Addition
The Lord blessed our sister Samantha Wilson with a healthy baby boy: Liam Alexander, 8lbs 7oz and 20 1/2 inches.

  • Children's Ministry
Click HERE to access the April verse card.

  • Additional Parking
The DMMS east lot is now open on Sundays as well as the west lot.

  • Meals Ministry
We are looking for a lead for our meals ministry. If you are interested, please email Noel for more details.

  • Women's Ministry
The deadline to sign up is this coming Sunday, April 8th.

  • Operations
The operations ministry works hard to create a worshipful environment for insiders and a welcoming environment for outsiders. The ops team is short on workers and in need of at least 3 more people. Please contact Brett if you are willing to serve.

  • GBC 101 Postponed
Our next GBC 101 class is Sunday, June 10th 12:30-2:30pm in The Study.

Our Upcoming Gathering

This coming Sunday will mark exactly 11 years of ministry for Gresham Bible Church; praise God for his grace (and happy birthday Gracie). Lord willing, Amy Lyda will lead our service, Marc will lead us in singing and I will preach John 9. Please pray for our gathering, read over the text

Gresham Bible Church Update

Celebrating the life and ministry of Jesus is a regular occurrence in our church. But one week each year is marked as holy. This is the week that we slow down and spend more time meditating on the Passion of Jesus Christ. I recommend skipping ahead a bit in John's Gospel and reading chapters 12-20 for your week's devotions.

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Praise God for the achievements of the cross! Let's pray this week that our meditations on Jesus Christ and his cross will awaken sleepy Christians, cause the backslider to regain their first love and encourage the faithful to remain steadfast in their devotion.

Here is what's happening in the life of the church

  • Meals Ministry
For the last 3 1/2 years our sister Marisa Springer has very faithfully served as the lead for our meals ministry. She recently discerned that it was time for her to entrust this joyful task to someone else. Marisa has been a rock star. As many of you have experienced, her leadership has enriched the life of the church and blessed many in our body. Her transition means that we need a new meals lead. If you are interested, please email Noel for more details.

  • Children's Ministry
Parents, please have your kids practice their Easter songs.

By God's grace, hospitality is one of the hallmarks of GBC. Our fellowship with one another helps strengthen our bond of unity. And, when we welcome outsiders we display the love of Christ. The warmth and affection that we show to new people is a powerful witness of Jesus. This trait is always important but even more so as the Lord grows GBC.

Things you can do: be mindful of opportunities to welcome an unfamiliar face, follow up with a contact made in prior weeks, encourage folks to fill out a connection card, volunteer yourself to be a guide to all things GBC, exchange contact information, invite them to the next GBC 101, pray for the Lord to establish them in a healthy local church.

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

I have had many occasions to boast about God's work in and through GBC. Our gathering on Sunday gives me yet another opportunity to rejoice in you all. Thank you for the compassion that you showed a new family with disabilities. Already, God has blessed us with a rich diversity of people in our church. All the time we are learning more and more how to love and support others not like ourselves. Thank you for bearing with us.
