Church Family,

As promised, here are the two Children’s Ministries videos from our 10 year anniversary service. Enjoy! Sign video and Vintage clips.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • We beseech your prayers for our Saturday elders’ retreat. We will be covering a wide range of topics (everything from evaluating processes to how to better support workers and leaders in our church). Pray for wisdom and clear discernment from the Lord.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Opportunity to serve Dexter McCarty Teachers:

Dear GBC, We need your help!  Every year we have the opportunity to bless the Teachers at Dexter McCarty with a meal during Teacher Appreciation Week.  This year it is scheduled for Monday May 8. We are hoping to provide soup, salad, bread and cookies. Please bring your soup in a crock-pot so we can keep it warm. Don’t have time to make a soup or cookies the day of?  Consider dropping off some disposable tableware or a bagged salad at my house the night before. We will besetting up at 10:30am and Teachers will arrive for their lunch break at 11:30.  It will be set up buffet style, so no need for servers this year. Clean-up will happen around 2pm. Crock-pots can be picked up at Elise Peter’s house any time after 2:30pm. Thanks for being willing to serve the teachers at Dexter in this special way. Email Elise Peter or call 503-799-7644

  • Elders’ Retreat Prayer Requests

The elders will be meeting for the day on Saturday to plan, brainstorm, fellowship and pray. One of our joyful tasks for the day is praying through our church directory. If you have a specific need that we can pray for, simply respond to this email and make your requests known. It is our pleasure to pray for you.

  • Children’s Ministry opportunity:

Children’s Ministry is in need of TWO new nursery workers to serve once a month on our new schedule. Come, join the team! Contact Lisa Perez or Megan Wood.

Admin GBC

Church Family,

I am still riding high from our 10 year celebration. Thank you to all who worked hard to make Sunday a special day. We hope to have a link to the videos from Sunday’s service in next week’s update.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  •  As many of you are aware, Christians in Egypt continue to suffer severe persecution. Please pray that their recent trials and the ongoing threats that they face will not overwhelm them. Pray for their perseverance. Pray for their witness of Christ in the midst of suffering. And pray that the Lord will guard their hearts and minds as they fix their gaze on Jesus.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Easter Service: I am looking forward to worshiping the risen Lord with you  this coming Sunday. Along with rejoicing in the Savior, Resurrection Sunday is a great evangelistic opportunity. Pray for unbelievers and invite someone new to church.
  • Media and Sound Service Opportunity: The Media and Sound Teams are looking for help. The Media Team is responsible for running the slides/video during Sunday morning services. The Sound Team is responsible for set up, tear down, and mixing the overall sound and recording on Sunday mornings. It’s a big (and important) behind-the-scenes job, which is why we could use some more help. Although desirable, no previous experience needed. Training will be provided. Members of both teams serve on approximately a once a month rotation (after training). If interested, please contact marc@greshambible.org
  • Prayer ConneXion: I wanted to make you aware of a wonderful conference on prayer. Prayer ConneXion, June 2nd and 3rd, will be at Central Bible Church. Click Here for details.
  •  Mexico Missions Trip Recap: The Kassings recently returned from their spring break missions trip to Mexico. Attached you’ll find a recap of their trip.
  • Pilot Ministry/Friendship Corner (from the Raus): Friendship Corner is organized by International Students, inc. http://www.isionline.org. Please contact Dave (503-927-9462) or Beth (971-570-4203) if you are interested or have questions. There is a need for more families get involved. It is a very informal gathering and welcoming of children.  Friendship Corner is every other Saturday night at Wood Village Baptist Church. It’s dinner, then a game, praise songs, a speaker, and then discussion time. Each family is matched with an apartment of 4 guys to have as their friendship family. Basically, you show them hospitality while they are studying in the United States. They are typically here for 18 months. There is definitely fruit in this outreach! We just heard of a couple of guys this last week who accepted Christ! There is a video for training, and the next Friendship Corner is this Saturday at 6pm.
  • GBC 101: Our next GBC 101 class is Thursday, April 27th. Let me know if you’re planning to attend.
  • Fred Meyer Rewards: Once again I wanted to let you know that GBC is now a recipient for Fred Meyer Rewards. See attachment below to find out how to participate.

Our Upcoming Gathering

Lord willing, Dave Berry will lead our service, Marc will lead us in singing and I will preach John 2:13-22. Please pray for our gathering, read over the text and come ready to worship.

Church Family,
This coming Sunday our text (1 Thessalonians 4:1-12) will focus on holiness/sanctification. To gain a broader biblical understanding of the subject, I recommend watching this Bible Project Video on holiness. This 6 minute video is excellent and does a great job communicating a biblical overview of holiness.

Also, if you would like to commit a bit more time to the topic, consider listening to or reading John Piper’s “The Chief Design of My Life: Mortification and Universal Holiness” reflections on the life and thought of John Owen. It’s money! 1.5 hours well spent.

Below is a brief update on the ministry and life of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • May the Lord make us increase and abound in love for one another and for all…so that he may establish our hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints (1 Thessalonians 3:11-13).

Church Family,
Social media can be a blessing (sharing updates with family, catching up with friends, etc). But like all good things social media can be perverted and its innocence lost. Our sister Angela Stump had an excellent post published on the Verity Fellowship blog about “How To Survive Social Media” Part 1 and Part 2. It is well worth the read.

Below is a brief update on the ministry and life of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Jobs is our prayer focus this week. Pray for people who are unemployed and under-employed; that they would find suitable and gainful work and that in the interim they would continue trusting in God for their provision. Pray that GBCers in the marketplace would honor Christ by excelling in their work and living out the gospel among unbelievers. Pray for mothers working in the home; may they be diligent and patient and delight in their work.
Here is what’s happening in the life of the church
  • Harvest Class: We will not have Harvest class this coming Sunday; however, during fellowship time, Teacher Amy would like to meet  with all Harvest kids in their classroom to introduce their new song for our 10th Anniversary Sunday.
  • GBC 10 Year Anniversary: It’s hard to believe that on Sunday, April 9th we will celebrate ten years of God’s faithfulness and ten years of your steadfast devotion to GBC. Many people are working to pull off a wonderful celebration that morning. If you would like to participate, please email Shannon.
Our Upcoming Gathering
Lord willing, Marc will lead us in singing, Dave Berry will lead our service and I will preach 1 Thessalonians chapters 2-3. Please pray for our gathering, read over the text and come ready to worship.

  • In ten days about forty five of our women will travel to Camp Cascade for their annual women’s retreat. Let’s pray that their time away will be replenishing, that their souls will be revived, that deeper bonds will form, and that the fathers left behind will joyfully manage the home and serve their children well.
