Gresham Bible Church Update

admin

Each year we have the opportunity to serve our community by beautifying the Dexter McCarty campus. This year, as in the past, we will be pulling weeds, trimming bushes, edging walkways and spreading bark. Our Community Care Day is Saturday, August 18th 8-10am. This is great way to display the love of Christ for our community. Please save the date and plan to attend. Sign up sheets will be available on Sunday, or sign up with Noel Rodman.

Here is what's happening in the life of the church

  • Campout
No Sunday morning service on August 12th at Dexter McCarty. Instead, join us on August 11th, Saturday evening at Promontory Park, (40600 OR-224, Estacada, OR 97023) for our worship gathering starting with a pizza dinner at 5pm.

  • Global Outreach

We'll also be enjoying some authentic Russian desserts along with coffee, tea and other refreshments. Email Thomas Slawson to R.S.V.P.

We will have worksheets and crayons available for the kids in service during these weeks.  Seeds will be staffed with one adult and several junior helpers, who are eager to teach the story, play, and sing! Nursery will still be staffed with all adults.

Volunteers needed for fall! If you are interested in serving once a month in Children’s Ministry, please talk with Lisa or Megan! On Sunday afternoon Kelsey and I will be showing your appreciation (and ours) for the staff and elders of GBC with a family BBQ in our backyard. They work hard and render their service eagerly and with much joy. We are very fortunate to have so many faithful leaders. One of my growth areas (and I think it's pretty common) is withholding praise. We often feel gratitude and may even express it in thanksgiving to God, but fail to convey that sentiment to the individual. As you have opportunity, please take time to let your leaders know how much you appreciate them and their work in our church.

Here is what's happening in the life of the church

  • Women's Ministry
July 14th 7:30-10:30pm Outdoor Movie Night @ Jenn Hudson's house. Please bring chairs or blankets to watch the movie.

  • Children’s Ministry News
    1. Children’s Ministry has a few give-away books left, if you did not receive your devotional yet! There are also several gifts left for the incoming 6th graders—if your child did not receive one, have them come see us at the check-in booth this Sunday!

    2. Beginning July 29th- August 26th, GBC will have classes only for those in Seeds and Nursery. This is an intentional time to give many of our workers a break and to grow our children in listening to preaching! We will have worksheets and crayons available for the kids in service during these weeks.  Seeds will be staffed with one adult and several junior helpers, who are eager to teach the story, play, and sing! Please come join and help us pursue this mission!

  • Younglife
Please pray for the restart of Younglife in our area. Brian Hills and others are working to launch Younglife at Sam Barlow High. This is a great opportunity for the gospel.

  • Student Ministry
Student Ministries had an amazing evening at Raz Ranch for our Hello/Goodbye Party! Thanks to those who prayed. We gladly welcomed our new 6th graders and transitioned our new 9th graders to High School group. Students and families were reminded that one of the key aims of the ministry is their “progress and joy in the faith” (Phil 1:25).

The Lord is doing great things in Student Ministries, thank you for praying for us! We average roughly 12 High Schoolers and about 25 Middle Schoolers weekly who gather for fun, food, and Bible study. We just finished the book of Ephesians and are embarking on a series called, “God is…”. Our students are currently on their summer “Year of Biblical Literacy” challenge of reading either the New Testament or the whole Bible by the end of August. We have a jam-packed July starting this weekend with our “Hello/Goodbye” BBQ’s as students move up to their respective grades. Please pray as we are in need of chaperones at our summer events and for additional youth leaders willing to invest in our students and help them take their next steps in Christ. If you are interested in either chaperoning one of our summer events, or would like to talk about volunteering in our Middle School or High School ministries, please email me! – Dave Berry
