Church Family,

It was great to have such a strong show of gratitude from the administration and teachers of Dexter McCarty on Sunday. The group commented to me before the service, “Please never leave, you’re not allowed to go anywhere.” The name of Jesus is being glorified by your love for the school.

Church Family,

This week I have been enjoying a rich and life-giving time of worship with the men of the Waterhouse Network. I am being challenged to press deeper into Christ and to live out the gospel.

Below is a brief update on the ministry and life of GBC.

Here’s how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Student Ministries got off to a great start on Sunday! Christ was proclaimed and about 30 kids gathered in community around God’s word. They also had a lot of fun. Please continue to pray for faithful and effective discipleship and for open doors for the gospel.
  • Lord willing, we will launch a new series in 1 and 2 Samuel this coming Sunday. I beseech your prayers for the right handling of the word, for personal transformation during study, and for clear and powerful preaching.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • You’re invited! The elders gather for prayer each Tuesday morning at 6am @ the church office. This time of prayer is open to everyone (male and female). Just dial #207 on the keypad to be buzzed in.
  • Our next corporate day of fasting is Wednesday, October 21st. We encourage you all to sacrifice and seek the Lord with us. Here is a link to a sermon I preached on fasting that you may find helpful. And here is the link to our day of fasting guide.
  • We currently have a need for teachers in Seeds and Sprouts? If you’re able to serve in this way please contact Lisa or Megan.
  • We encourage you to engage with the Scripture during the week ahead of our Sunday gatherings. So here is a link to the sermon schedule for 1 Samuel.

Church Family,

After Sunday’s sermon on prayer, a brother sent me a great quote about prayer from H. B. Charles: Prayer… is an expression of submission to God and dependence upon Him. For that matter, prayer is arguably the most objective measurement of dependence upon God. Think of it this way; the things you pray about are the things you trust God to handle. The things you neglect to pray about are the things you trust you can handle on your own.

Below is a brief update on the ministry and life of GBC.

Here’s how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Please continue to pray for the folks who are reeling from last week’s shooting. Pray for good success for faithful churches in the Roseburg area, as they reach out to comfort those who are suffering.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • We’re working to update our church directory. If you didn’t have a chance to fill out a form on Sunday, don’t worry. Click HERE for the online form. And don’t forget to email your family photo if it needs to be updated.
  • HERE is a link to our 3rd quarter financial report. Thank you for your generosity!
  • In case you missed it, HERE is a link to Sunday’s state of the church address. Please feel free to share your thoughts and insights with us about the address by filling out the “things I wish the elders knew” form.
  • Lastly, I want to commend to you a message given during Cornerstone’s Sunday gathering. The talk is by Dr. Brad Harper (a pastor and scholar) whose son is gay. It is a wonderfully gracious perspective on homosexuality.

Our Upcoming Gathering
Lord willing, this coming Sunday I will wrap up our series on the Four Marks of the Church and preach a sermon about the vital importance of the apostolic witness of Jesus.  Please pray for our gathering and come ready to worship.

Children’s Corner September 2015

Admin GBC

Just as Eve in the garden doubted that God’s Word was good enough, our kids will struggle with that too (as do we)! The truths we learned in Sunday’s sermon about Jesus “happen to be” the exact passage our kids learned about in class this week as well—wow!! Take the opportunity to review these truths as a family. As we lay a foundation of truth in our kid’s hearts, they will be more capable to filter the untruths they hear in other places. Jesus is LORD over all!!

Congrats to the many kids that said their verse on Sunday! Our new verses for October are the following:
Deuteronomy 6:4-6 (Seeds/Sprouts: v 5, Greenhouse v. 5-6, and Harvest v 4-6)

Opportunity: If you would like to help in Children’s Ministry, we would love to talk with you! Also, we are in need of a Seeds teacher (ages 2-3). Please contact Lisa Perez or Megan Wood.
