Church Family,

GBC’s fiscal year follows the calendar year. We depend on your generosity all year long and especially at the end of the year to meet our budget and giving target. This Christmas season, as you reflect on all that the Lord has given us in Christ, consider responding with an end-of-year gift to GBC. Also, please keep in mind that all 2017 giving must be postmarked or received by December 31st.

Below is a very full update on the life and ministry of GBC.

This year I am once again tasked with preparing the protein for Thanksgiving. Our guests very much look forward to the annual brine, rubbed, shuttlecocked, smoke roasted bird. Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Church Family,

Lord willing, this coming Sunday we will conclude our 4-part series in the book of Job. In our final sermon I will preach chapters 38-42, “Job’s God.” In this section the Lord speaks to Job from the whirlwind and reveals his majesty and glory, which leads Job to humbly trust in God’s perfect wisdom. One of Dave Berry’s favorite bands wrote a beautiful and stirring song about the Lord’s response to Job. Definitely worth a listen!

Church Family,

I am very much looking forward to our upcoming Sunday gathering. We will be addressing the subject of sexual brokenness with an emphasis on homosexuality. Drew Berryessa will be our guest speaker for the morning service and we will host a Q & A with him on Sunday afternoon from 4-6pm in the study (suite 110). The purpose of pressing into this issue is to ground the church in the truth, to equip GBC’ers to effectively respond to sexual brokenness, and to present a message of hope in Christ for people who struggle.

In addition to having Drew come, I want to recommend two very helpful articles about sexual brokenness and biblical sexuality. The first is a powerful testimony by Jackie Hill-Perry about her journey from lesbianism to complementarianism. And the second is a conversation about singleness, same-sex attraction, and the church with Christopher Yuan, Rosaria Butterfield, and Sam Allberry.

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

  • Let’s pray this week for the recovery efforts in Florida and the Caribbean. Please pray that this tragedy would present faithful churches with an opportunity to display the love of Christ. Also, pray for the care of those who have been displaced and have suffered great loss.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Church Directory Update
We’re in the process of updating the church directory. Please visit THIS page to update your information. Or you can fill out a connection card on Sunday morning and put it in the offering box.The church directory helps foster connection, it is a tool for communication, and a guide for prayer.

  • Automated Generous Giving
For about 3 years now Kelsey and I have automated our tithe to GBC. Like many of you we rarely write checks, our culture has shifted towards automated or electronic payments. We use billpay through OnPoint and have our tithe sent to GBC’s office (123 E. Powell BLVD, 97030). We find that this option is still very worshipful and fits our modern lifestyle. This option is open to you as well. You may find that automating your giving makes you a more consistent and generous giver (GBC now receives about 1/3 of or our giving by mail). Of course, the offering box is a very fine option too.
  • Women’s Ministry (from Angela Stump)
Fall WM Bible study kick off, next Tuesday 9/19 from 7-9pm in suite 110! Girls…you are not going to want to miss this series that Sandy Snavely has prepared for us. I truly believe the amount of prayer and study that has been put into this is going to impact us greatly as we seek to love Jesus and each other more deeply. If you are not receiving the Women’s Ministry email updates, and would like to, please contact Ang.

Also, there are several opportunities for Women’s bible studies this next year. Please open this link for more information. Or email Ang to sign up.

Church Family,

I have enjoyed spending time in the psalms this summer. Along with the teaching and instruction I’ve received, the psalms have been a powerful guide in prayer. If you are curious about how to incorporate the psalms into your prayers, consider this brief article by Don Whitney, “Why You Should Be Praying the Psalms.”

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Let’s pray this week for our Haiti team as they make final preparations for their trip. Pray for spiritual and physical strength in these final days as they complete remaining tasks. And pray that they will be filled with joy in anticipation of serving others in the name of Jesus Christ.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Help For Haiti
Our Haiti missions team is collecting supplies for  their upcoming trip. They are in need of first aid supplies and new school supplies. Please bring your donations to our worship service at Dexter McCarty, this coming Sunday, July 30th. Your contributions will be used to help aid the education and recovery efforts in Haiti.
  • Campout
The church camp out is in less than 3 weeks! There’s still time to sign up for the weekend or just for the day on Saturday. Follow this LINK to register. Update: the only GBC provided meal will be dinner on Saturday evening. Please make plans for all other meals. We hope you will spend that time in fellowship with other families camped near you.
  • Student Ministries
High Schoolers! This Sun (the 30th) is our “Putt & Pizza” night. Please RSVP to Dave.
Cost is $16/person for the event.
Drop off/meet at 6:30pm at Tiki Putt in Gresham (1694 NW Fairview drive)
Pick up at 8:30 pm at Flying Pie Pizza (same parking lot as Tiki)

Our Upcoming Gathering

Lord willing, Dave Berry will lead our service, Marc will lead us in singing, we will send off our Haiti team and I will preach Psalm 90. Please pray for our gathering, read over the text and come ready to worship.
