Church Family,

Many of you are already aware that a Dexter McCarty 6th grader took their own life. I have been in contact with principal John George. I told him that we are praying for the family and the school community and I offered GBC’s support during this difficult time. The offer was warmly received, but at this time no service from the church is necessary.

Below is an update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Let’s pray this week for the students and faculty of DMMS. Pray for their comfort. And pray that through this tragic loss Christians will have open doors to display the love of Jesus Christ.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Children’s Ministry
Our January Verse Card is ready. Parents, the verse card is a great tool for helping your children hide God’s word in their heart.

Our Upcoming Gathering

Lord willing, Amy Lyda will lead our service, we will pray for Nicole LeBlond and her upcoming trip to Haiti, Marc will lead us in singing and I will preach John 1:19-51, “The Way.” Please pray for our gathering, read over the text and come ready to worship.

We are very much looking forward to our annual Christmas Brunch this coming Sunday. Many thanks to Michelle Waggoner and her team for working hard to coordinate the event. Also, our operations crew will be working overtime to pull off both our regular Sunday gathering and the meal that follows. If you think about it, thank Jason and Brett and everyone who serves to create a welcoming environment for outsiders and a worshipful environment for GBCers.

Below is a very full update on the life and ministry of GBC.

So join us this weekend!

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Let’s double our efforts this week by praying for foster and adoptive families. The ministry is beautiful and adorns the gospel, but the work is often hard and wearying. Pray for the spiritual strength of GBC families laboring in the ministry of orphan care. Pray for their joy in Christ. And pray for their perseverance.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Understanding Job

Tim Mackie wrote two excellent blog posts on understanding the book of Job. The first, “What’s Going on Here?” clears up some common confusion surrounding the opening chapters of Job. And the companion video does a really good job of surveying Job. The second post, “God Gives Job a Virtual Tour of His Wise World” is equally helpful. In this post Mackie unpacks the big ideas of Job and what they reveal about God. The video link that accompanies this post is also very useful and provides a clear and engaging overview of the book. These resources are well worth your time and will enhance your experience throughout our 4-week series in Job.

  • Tuesday Morning Prayer
