Church Family,

Sometime ago a friend recommended that I watch “Woodlawn.” The film is a faith-based drama inspired by true events at a Birmingham, Alabama, high school in 1973. The movie contains a strong message about the power of the gospel to transform a divided community. Highly recommended.

Below is a brief update on the life and ministry of GBC.

Here is how you can pray for GBC and our work in the world

  • Let’s pray Luke 10:2, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Pray that God will pour out his Spirit, stir up gifts, and spark imaginations so that we will reap the harvest he has prepared.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Student Ministries
    All Jr. High/High School students and their families are invited to join us at Liepold Farms on Sunday, October 8th at 2pm. This will be an informal event to spend some fun time together as a church community. You may leave at your own leisure. High School will not meet that evening, but will resume October 15th.
  • Church Directory Update
    We’re in the process of updating the church directory. Please visit THIS page to update your information. The church directory helps foster connection, it is a tool for communication, and a guide for prayer.
  • Small Group Sign-ups Fall 2017
    Sign ups for Small Groups began this last Sunday and will continue for the next few weeks. Sign up sheets are available on a table located near the kids check in station. You can also email Noel to sign up or with questions about the different group options.
  • MEMBER MEETING POSTPONED. Rescheduled for October 22nd, 4:45-6:45pm

Our Upcoming Gathering

Lord willing, Angela Stump will lead our service, Thomas will lead us in singing and I will preach Psalm 146. Please pray for our gathering, read over the text, and come ready to worship.

Church Family,

Principal John George of Dexter McCarty is very appreciative that GBC has once again agreed to serve the school by sprucing up the front exterior in anticipation of a new school year. Here are the details of Saturday’s big work day.

Why: To bless our city and display God’s  goodness

When: Saturday, August 26th 8-10am

Where: Meet in the front parking lot of Dexter McCarty Middle School

Work: Remove weeds from beds, trim bushes, edge lawn, spread beauty bark

Who: Adults and children

What: Please bring wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels, trowels, trimmers. and leaf blowers

  • Please pray for our work day at Dexter McCarty. Pray for cheerful hearts that are eager to serve. Pray for a strong turnout. And pray that Christ would be honored by our work.

Our work day for Dexter McCarty is just around the corner (8/26 8-10am). Bring your wheelbarrows, shovels, trimmers, and blowers! Beyond beautifying the campus, our work day is also a way of tangibly blessing the city in Jesus’ name. Please email Noel to sign up!!   • Please pray that God would continue to open doors for evangelism in our community. Pray for evangelistic opportunities in existing relationships and for the formation of new relationships that would yield an evangelistic harvest. Pray also for boldness to tell the good news about Jesus.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Haiti Update
    Our GBC short term missions team has returned from Haiti safely and wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and support while away.  They completed physical projects involving hauling buckets of concrete at an orphanage and a school, as well as providing a short VBS to three different groups of kids throughout the week.
  • Women’s Ministry
    Women’s prayer meeting at Cristy Slawson’s home, Wednesday August 23rd at 7:20pm.
    Missed Women’s Ministry’s series on spiritual gifts? Or want a refresher on what using your gifts should look like in the church? Contact Ang Stump to get details on taking (or retaking) a spiritual gifts test and join us after church on Sunday August 27th at 12:30 in suite 110 to discuss how to use these gifts to benefit the body of Christ at GBC. Lunch will be provided, so please RSVP!
  • Thrive Prayer and Worship Night
    Thrive is sponsoring a prayer and worship night on Saturday, August 26th. Click HERE for details.
  • Student Ministries
    Jr. High Pizza Party tonight at Suite 110. 6:30-8:30pm

    High School Hike in the gorge this Sunday, August 20th. Email Dave with questions. All the details will be on the high school Facebook page.

  • Camp Out Recap
    Many thanks to all who made our camp out a huge success. The Lord answered our prayers and blessed our time. The fellowship was rich, lots of laughs were shared, the kids had a blast, and the bond of unity was strengthened.

Church Family,

We will NOT hold service at Dexter McCarty this coming Sunday (8/13). Instead, our weekly gathering will be held at Promontory Parkon Saturday (8/12) at 6:15pm. If you are unable to camp with us this weekend, we would love to have you join us for service on Saturday followed by our talent show.

  • Please pray that the Lord would use our camp out to continue to strengthen the bond of unity in our church. Pray for the deepening of Christ-centered relationships and for the germination of new friendships.

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • Community Care Day, Saturday, 8/268-10am
    Our work day for Dexter McCarty is an opportunity to serve our community in a practical way by beautifying the school campus before students return to school. Our work day is also a way of tangibly blessing the city in Jesus’ name. So let’s make the most of this opportunity to bear witness of Christ by showing up in force and working hard. Please plan to join us on Saturday, 8/26 8-10am.

  • Robinson Good-Bye  
    Roger and Kristin Robinson are moving to Colorado to be closer to family and enjoy a slower pace of life. For several years Roger and Kristin have been faithful members of Gresham Bible Church. We will send them off warmly during our upcoming gathering.

  • Student Ministries
    High School – No group this coming Sunday due to the camp out.
    JR. High – This Wednesday, August 9th, BBQ at the Biggerstaff’s 6:30-8:30pm

Here is what’s happening in the life of the church

  • You’re Invited to meet the Shannons
    Our sister Steph Gerards has coordinated an event (next Monday, July 17th in the lower office, Suite 110) with Jerry and Christy Shannon, missionaries in Ethiopia. The Shannons are doing a wonderful work serving families and children. Click HERE for details. Follow this LINK for more information about their ministry.

  • GBC 101
    If you are new to GBC or newer to GBC or even if you’ve been a part of the church for some time, you are invited to attend our next GBC 101 class. This Thursday, July 13th 6:30-8:30pm in suite 110. The class is like a church orientation and a key connection point. Simply reply to this email if you would like to attend.

  • Student Ministries
    Jr. High group at the Raz Ranch this Wednesday6:30-8:30pm. Burgers and hot dogs provided. If you can, bring a side dish to share. Please wear your swimsuits, bring a towel and change of clothes. Also, life jackets are required to go in the water and we are in need of some extras. So if you have any you could contribute for the night we would greatly appreciate it!

    NO High School group this coming Sunday (7/16) and NO Jr. High group next Wednesday (7/19).
